Commitment

Do you know anyone who decided to get married after a first date? While I know a few that said, “It was love at first sight,” I don’t know anyone who said, “We were committed to be together forever by the end of the night.” Committing to someone is a process. There is some negotiating and wondering, “Do I enjoy this person? Does this person respect me? Does he/she challenge me to be a better person? Can we fight and resolve stuff well?" After all these questions, people usually come to a resolution about what kind of commitment to make to another person. (I talked more about this on Sunday. Click HERE to listen.)

Commitment is a process in marriage and the same is true in friendship and in a church community. As a part of the Covenant Church, we have six affirmations that make up our theological convictions. These are not exclusive “in or out” statements, but a set of statements clearly expressing the values and principles that have guided this group of churches since its founding over 125 years ago. My hope is the more we agree with these statements, the more we feel unified, connected and committed to our church.
What have you committed to in your life? What was the result of that commitment? Was it worth it? I’d love to hear. Respond on Facebook or email me directly.

Have a great week,
Pastor Rob

Life Groups
Fall Life Groups launch the first week of October (that's next week!) and we would love everyone at Restoration to take part. There's no list of groups for you to choose from. Instead, we invite you to contact Eric Langmaack and let him help you decide what kind of group you're looking for. His job is to put together Life Groups for people with similar interests and availability. Contact him at EricLangmaack@restorationcov.org.

Discover Restoration Lunch

Then you will want to join Pastor Rob after the worship service this Sunday, September 30 for a Discover Restoration Lunch. It’s right at the Hayes Community Center where we meet for worship. RSVP to Janae Barriuso at rjbarriuso@gmail.com.

ABC Mentors at Westview
We would like to send volunteers again this year to Westview Elementary School to help kindergartners learn their ABCs. It was an amazing blessing to see the progress the kids made last year when we were able to help out. Mentors are needed from now through Thanksgiving, and the times that we are looking to cover are 12:30-1pm and 2:30-3:30pm. If you could volunteer to serve at one of these times 1 to 2 days a week it would be so much appreciated. The time commitment may be small but the rewards are HUGE! Restoration in the World
mharpell
Maddie Harpell, a senior at Burnsville High School and attender here at Restoration, was crowned Homecoming Queen this past Thursday. "When I was crowned Queen, that was unreal. I was so surprised. I was praying that God would be with me and help me stay grateful just for the honor of being selected to Homecoming Royalty this year and not to be preoccupied with being Queen or not." Maddie strives at school to shine the light of Jesus to everyone, wanting to be an inspiration through example for others so they might see in her a Christ-follower living real life. Congratulations Maddie, and way to be a light for Christ in your school!
